| "RUNA" marks a welcome return into
form on record. With the power-packed Cafiero on drums, the music is
excitable, while it still takes succour from D'Anna's vigorous delivery.
At the same time, it's looser and more free-flowing than the first record.
Several of D'Anna's seven originals refer to aspects of his native Palermo,
altough there's little here which nods towards the folkish feel of some
sicilian records, these players are maybe too wordly for that. "I
Should Care" and "'S Wonderful" are hard bitten ballad
readings and there's a somewhat surprising dedication to Stan Getz,
not a tenorman whose influence sounds apparent on D'Anna. |
